6 700 trees and shrubs are coming to Perm this spring.

Perm has begun its annual clean-up for spring. The 2009 City clean-up includes sweeping and cleaning the streets to reduce dust levels, picking up debris left behind after the winter snow season, and current road repairs. In particular, about 3 000 square meters of roads have been rehabilitated since the beginning of spring. The weather allows for the daily increase in work volumes. The total volume of road repairs will go up to 18 000 square meters by the end of April.

The planning of greenery involves the planting of 3 088 shrubs and 3 604 trees. The main goal is to expand the tree canopy.

"The city is increasingly realizing the urban forest is really part of the infrastructure of the city," Nadezhda Kochurova, Deputy City Manager said. "It isn't just about looking pretty."
